Kaufman
Glass Company provides sight glasses that are designed
to provide maximum user safety. Essential in many
chemical and industrial applications our high quality
sight glasses assure safe observation of high temperature
and high pressure operations.
Our Pyrex
brand and Borofloat sight glasses are made from borosilicate
glass. We also offer Vycor brand sight glasses which
are made of number 7900 96% silica glass. Both are
widely used in industry and are well known for their
mechanical, chemical and thermal stability. A noteworthy
difference between our Pyrex and Vycor brand sight
glasses is that Pyrex can be heat treated or tempered
to about 3 times its annealed strength, but Vycor
cannot be tempered due to its extreme heating temperature.
Our
sight glasses are available in many standard sizes.
Annular Edge glasses have raised rims that have been
ground flat to provide a 1/2" wide gasket surface
which is essential for pressure applications. Circles
cut from plate glass, ground flat and polished for
optical clarity, have outer edges which are ground
to close diametral tolerances.

MOLDED
SIGHT GLASSES
Pyrex brand
3/4" Annular Edge sight glasses are safety labeled
on the glass, as well as the package. They are available
annealed for normal and alkaline use, or tempered
for pressure and temperature applications.
Kaufman
Glass Company's specialty flat glasses have unique
chemical, mechanical, thermal, and optical properties
that enable them to provide long service and fulfill
requirements that common window glass cannot meet.
PYREX
BRAND NO.7740 AND BOROFLOAT FLAT GLASSES
These
glasses combine resistance to both heat and chemical
attack. They also transmit short infrared and near
ultraviolet radiation. They are available tempered
or untempered with either a polished plate or a rolled
surface.
Applications
for Pyrex brand No. 7740 and Borofloat flat glasses
include specialty windows where transparency, as well
as, protection of personnel, equipment or instrumentation
is essential.
VYCOR
BRAND NO.7913 FLAT GLASS
This
glass provides the best resistance to heat, severe
chemical attack, and thermal shock of any of the Corning
Specialty Flat Glasses. It also transmits the most
infrared and ultraviolet wave lengths. Available with
either a polished plate or rolled surface, Vycor's
mechanical strength is slightly less than that of
Pyrex or Borofloat.
Applications
for Vycor brand No. 7913 flat glass includes windows
which must survive extremely high temperature shocks,
or transmits which are far beyond the visible spectrum.
It is also used for high temperature firing plates.
BOROSILICATE
INFRARED REFLECTING GLASS
This
glass has a metallic oxide film permanently bonded
to one side, which makes it highly effective as a
reflector of infrared energy, especially past 1.8
microns. Because of its conductive coating, this glass
is also recommended for electrostatic shielding.
The
coating on Infrared Reflecting Glass is chemically
durable, as hard as the glass itself. It will not
scratch, peel or loosen. It transmits approximately
75% of the visible light, about the same as a tinted
automobile windshield. Other than the transmission
characteristics, Infrared Reflecting Glass has the
same properties as Borosilicate glass.
BLUE
COATED FURNACE OBSERVATION GLASS
This
is a heat resistant blue coated Vycor glass that filters
out most of the visible light, but transmits a high
percentage of infrared radiation. It is used to reduce
glare when observing flame, smoke and ash intensity
in power plants, and marine boilers. It is also recommended
for other furnace observation applications. |
